Learn the basics of plein air painting including deciding on a composition, mixing colors, creating depth with atmospheric perspective, and using light and shadow effectively.
Katharine Taylor attended Hillsdale College in Michigan, where she studied with artists Sam Knecht and Anthony Frudakis. As a student she won awards for her paintings and drawings at college and regional student art exhibits. She graduated in 2002, summa cum laude with a BA in art. After graduation, Taylor received a grant for a cooperative project in sacred art with sculptor and classmate Allison Streett, and spent another year at Hillsdale completing a large painting of the conversion of St. Paul.
Currently, Taylor lives in Sturgis, Michigan, in a tiny 1920s bungalow, with her husband, two young daughters, and two dogs. She is a lecturer in drawing and painting at Hillsdale College, and is completing a Master of Fine Arts through Academy of Art University, San Francisco.
